“This is my second summer working with Discovery Camp, and I also worked after care at Evergreen during the school year. I had friends who worked here, and although I had never worked with kids before, working at camp sounded fun and I was looking to try something new for the summer.

I didn’t know how it would go at first, but it went well! I found that working at camp is fulfilling for me. I enjoy working with the kids. I like having fun with them and spending time with the other counselors, who are also my friends. The atmosphere of working here is just really fun and positive.

I’ve learned a lot from having worked camp last summer. I started bringing Lego figures with me every day – just a few – and I realized that when a kid is having a tough time, or there’s some down time, it helps them focus or calm down. As time goes on, it’s helpful to know these little things that help the kids and yourself as a counselor.

I’m heading off to college this year. I’m going to miss the free gym membership – it’s nice to go after work – and I’m also going to miss all my friends and the kids. But I know I’ll be back next summer.”
