Find Your After School Spot. Find Your Y.

The Y’s after school program provides a safe, enriching and fun environment for kids to enjoy when the school day ends. We are excited to offer an after school program for elementary school children in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. The program will include bussing and will be held at our YMCA building, 1340 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains.

Please read below for registration and program details.

  • Outside time is key to being a kid! Your child will spend as much time outside as possible during the fall and spring months at our new camp site. We have picnic tables for homework and snack time.
  • Children will have a variety of activities to choose from, including but not limited to Legos, Nok hockey, building blocks, books, fuse beads, and more.
  • Weekly enrichments are included at no additional cost from October through May. See below for included enrichments.
  • All participants signed up until 6:30pm will have an open swim/water safety instruction at least twice a month at no extra cost.
  • We will have Fun Snack Fridays once a month, which will include hands-on cooking projects.
  • Parents will receive a monthly email that will highlight each month’s planned activities, special days and program announcements.
Included Enrichments

A variety of new enrichments will be included with the program fees. Examples are:

Safety Around Water: lessons on how to be safe in and around water, along with Open Swim time.

Rockin’ Blocks: for kids who love to build, this enrichment puts their problem solving skills to the test as they build complex structures from scratch.

Hypothesis Heroes: budding scientists will love participating in hands-on, science experiments and making observations about the world around them.

Come on Get Crafty: kids will express their creative side through different forms of art such as origami, friendship bracelets, crocheting or knitting, stitching, making and stringing bead jewelry, using air-dry clay, and creating with found materials.

Recess Redo: kids will play their favorite recess games including Four Square, Knockout, What Time is it Mr. Fox?, and Rock, Paper, Scissors Relay, while building healthy habits and working on their fitness and agility.

Breathe In, Breathe Out: in our mindfulness enrichment, we will help children learn to self-regulate, calm, and soothe by learning to focus and de-stress through simple daily practices including yoga and meditation.

Family Membership Upgrade

Each family enrolled in the after school program will be required to have one (1) FSPY youth membership, regardless of how many children are in our program. For example, if you have 3 children in our after school program, you will only need to pay for one membership.

This will then automatically be upgraded to a Family Membership for the same cost (currently $33 per month) so the entire family can utilize our Y for no additional fees. This cost applies to those already on a Family Membership. The Family Membership will be valid from September 1, 2023-June 30, 2024.

If you are not currently member of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y and would like to register for the after school program, please register in person at our Welcome Center. If you have any questions about Y membership, please contact Kristine Keating, Membership Engagement Director, at

Additional Programs

Children also can participate in Y programs for an additional fee and we will drop them off and pick them up from class during after care hours. Programs include: Gymnastics, Dance, Ninja Warrior, Swimming Lessons, Piano Lessons, Tae Kwon Do, and many more.
