“I’ve been working here since my junior year of high school, so about six years now. I was originally working as a lifeguard at another place and my twin sister was working here. I decided to come work here as well and have really enjoyed the flexibility it allows me as a student. Also, there’s a great vibe with the staff. It’s very collaborative. You can really talk to anyone and that satisfies the social butterfly in me.

We (my sister and I) always liked the water. We’d go to summer camps and always wanted to do boating or swimming – in the water activities. I’m also an Eagle Scout and needed to get merit badges such as First Aid, Swimming and Lifesaving. I figured the next step was becoming a lifeguard.

I actually first came to this Y when I was a lot younger and took swim lessons. I remember a little what it was like, and it’s nice to give that back in a way. I also came here as a 7th grade member and took classes like Teen Cycle.

I like that the Y is 5 minutes from my house, and that I am able to come back during breaks from school. Especially in the summer, I know I have a job when I come home. Plus – a fun fact about me – I go to the Wednesday night Barre class. I started taking dance classes in college and it helps me maintain flexibility and is a way to exercise. I really enjoy it. Am I good? No. Is it fun? Yes.”
