“I used to come to the Y when I was younger and received the free 7th grade membership. I would come here with my friends after school to work out. Then, my family joined on a Family Membership and I would come during my Lacrosse and Wrestling seasons to exercise. I like the atmosphere at the Y. It’s welcoming to everyone, and all the people here have been really nice.

I received my lifeguard certification last summer and was a lifeguard at a local outdoor pool. I like that along with lifeguarding comes important life skills like first aid and CPR. You never know what can happen wherever you go. When I was looking to apply for lifeguard jobs recently, this was the first indoor pool that came to mind. I started working here in early April and I like the environment and that the shifts are very flexible.

My advice for families is to always watch your children – never leave them unsupervised even if there is a lifeguard on duty. For kids and adults, I’d also advise on avoiding horseplay like dunking people under water or holding them underneath. This could lead to potentially dangerous situations. And everyone should practice safety in and around the water. Even the best and most experienced swimmers can have accidents, too.”
