“I started working here about six or seven years back when I was 16 or 17. I originally started here as a lifeguard and wanted to work at the Y since it’s not a seasonal job. With the indoor pools, you can work here year round. Plus, it’s 5 minutes from my home. I started here about 6 months to one year before my twin brother (who was featured here last week).

I became a swim instructor since the Y was looking for more people to teach classes. I’ve met a lot of people working here, and some of us have hung out outside of work. It ended up being a really good community and friendly atmosphere, and I wasn’t necessarily expecting that.

It’s nice to be back here now and see the kids I used to teach. This is one the parts of the job that I like most – watching the kids grow older and become more well-rounded individuals. I’d tell others about working here, it’s what you put into it. If you are a high school or college student and you put in the getting to know you mentality, that’s what you’ll get back.”
