“I live in the senior housing complex in Scotch Plains. Our complex was offered classes through Housing for Hope, an organization that provides enrichment, social activities and support services to seniors. During one of these classes, I learned that I could also participate in Y programs through a Housing for Hope program, called Senior’s Day Out. I found out that the Y has a warm pool, which I need for my rheumatoid arthritis. I started taking the group exercise classes in the pool and I was in heaven! I absolutely loved the instructor. I tried a chair yoga class and I fell in love again!

When the Housing for Hope program ended, I was devastated. But, I was able to apply for and received financial assistance through the Y, which was wonderful. Roberta, the Healthy Living Director, encouraged me to take other classes and now I come at least 3 times a week, which gives me the structure I need. Coming to the Y has made my life a lot nicer. I have met so many nice people and have become much more social than I used to be. I have lived in Scotch Plains for 8 years and it has been great getting to know more people who live in my community.

I am so thankful for the Y’s financial assistance program and those who support the Y because it gives people like me the opportunity to join a place like this, which for me has been terrific!”
