“I started here in September 2017 in the Aquatics Department. I was under a tremendous amount of stress in my life the year before and started taking water exercise classes to help alleviate some of my stress. When I started coming here, the water exercise instructor was so very encouraging and after six months of taking classes, she convinced me to become an instructor. When interviewing, I was asked if I’d be willing to teach swim lessons. Having no previous experience teaching lessons, but loving to swim, I agreed to be trained. I have loved teaching both children and adults. It is extremely gratifying. Looking to supplement my part-time work in the pool, I applied for an Accounts Payable position I saw on the Y website. With my background in project management, IT and financial services, learning accounts payable has been a pleasure. Adding to my responsibilities of managing vendor payments, I became the finance administrator managing bank reconciliations, month-end reporting and some accounting transactions. Recently, I added Membership Services to my Y repertoire. I love interacting with the members and all the wonderful people that work here. Working in multiple departments has exposed me to so many terrific people that have enriched my life. If someone had told me 10 years ago that this is what I would be doing, I would have told them they are crazy. But I am sure glad that I get to my spend my days at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.”
