“I’ve been working here since 2004, but I joined the Y in 1998. I lived in Scotch Plains my whole life and I wanted to go to the gym to work out. I was always exercising, but I hadn’t joined a gym. I was in my 40s and I decided to try it out here. I saw people I know and ended up forming friendships. I said, ‘you know what? I’d like to work here part-time.’ I now plan to work for the Y until I can’t work anymore. I like what they stand for, that’s the key for me. I feel like there’s a big bond with people here. If you don’t show up for a few days, they ask where you’ve been. People here are very friendly. I also like engaging with people and like the fact that the Y gives back to people. I’m a people person.”
