“I started on the Swim Team at a local community pool when I was around 8 years old, and then my mom suggested trying out for the team here. I made it onto the team and was part of it for almost a decade, pretty much until I graduated from high school. My main event was the 200 butterfly. Now, I’m on the water polo team at the University of Delaware. The Swim Team at the Y gave me a place to exercise and work out, and there’s a sense of community. It also gave me a place to explore my interests. Some of my best memories were made on the Swim Team. I started working as a lifeguard here over this past winter break from college, and I just came back for the summer. I like the flexible hours here and everyone is really nice. I feel like my life has come full circle. I came here as a kid and now I’m working here. I’m having a lot of fun and enjoying the camaraderie with staff and members. It’s just a good place to be.”
