Nick, Chase and Hannah were members of our Y before they began working here. Nick began working here first, followed by Chase and then they suggested Hannah join them since she had been swimming at our Y for years.

“I got started working at the Y because of my family’s long-time membership here,” explains Nick, who has worked here for over 3 years. “My siblings and I all did swim lessons at the Y when we were young, and this eventually led to my sister, Hannah, joining the Swim Team. The combination of our great experiences with the Y and Hannah being on the Swim Team made the Y the ideal place to work.”

Nick wanted to work at the Y because he heard great things about flexible schedules and the friendly work environment. Family friends and his parents had suggested he work here as well.

“I wanted to work at the Y because of the community that has been built there over the years,” Chase adds.

In addition, Chase says working in Aquatics has been very beneficial to him and his success. In Aquatics, staff are tasked with protecting people around the pool area and the YMCA in general. The training they receive helps with activities in everyday life. Working in Aquatics has allowed the siblings to learn how to communicate in stressful situations and act calm when something goes wrong.

Plus, they all say, they enjoy working with one another, which has brought them closer.

“I really like having both of my older brothers at the Y and it’s very convenient,” Hannah says. “When I need a cover the first people I go to are my brothers. It’s nice having people you know well where you work. It made me a lot less nervous going into working my first few shifts knowing people already had a good impression of my siblings.”
