“I’m a sports management major at my school and last semester, I was offered an internship at the YMCA. I actually used to be a member of a different Y when I was younger. I was on the basketball team and swim team and would use the Wellness Center. My internship was in Wellness and Sports. The kids are really nice, the staff is really nice and this is a fun place to be. After my internship ended, I felt like this would be a nice environment to work in. I work in the Wellness Center and helped with Sports Camp this summer. I then found out that Aquatics needed help with Splash Camp and I started working there as well. I had swam until I was in the 8th grade and then picked it up again my junior and senior year of high school. I feel comfortable in the water since I’m familiar with it. I also wanted more hours and thought a good way to do this was to try different jobs. Plus, I’m gaining skills as a leader, too. I’m helping teach young kids how to swim and you learn how to work with each individual kid to help them in the pool or with sports. I also have a lot of energy and it helps me balance working in the different departments.”
