“This is going to be my 5th year working here. I’ve pretty much grown up at the Y though. My older brother and I went to camp here when it was Camp Mak. Some of the people here basically know me from when I was born. Katie (the SACC & Camp Director) was my camp counselor. I also was a student in the Y’s Child Care program when it was at Grand Street. And I participated in the SACC program in elementary school and was a camper until high school. I loved going to camp as a kid – meeting new people, going places like amusement parks, water parks and lakes, and getting to have different experiences. As I got older the Y was still there for me. I liked working with kids and I always babysat, so I thought I might like working in SACC and it turns out I really enjoy it. My mom also worked for the Y’s before care program, so I kind of fell right into it. I like working with the kids and different age groups, helping them with their school work and playing games. I like watching them grow up; some of them I knew when they were in kindergarten and now they’re in 4th grade. I’ve also made friends at the Y; at least five of the friends I know from camp also work here. I’m excited for camp this year. I’m looking forward to seeing the campers and doing more activities again this year. Camp is one of my favorite things – there’s no school work, you just have fun.”
