“I started working here in May when I was home from college. One of my best friends works here, and my mom and grandma both previously worked for another YMCA. I also heard good things about the supervisor and programs at the Y. I started as an after care counselor at McGinn and then became a camp counselor over the summer. I’m now back for the holidays.

I like working with the kids. In before care, you get to start their day off right. You’re also a constant in their life and I like making the programs enjoyable for them. I was really sad when I left the kids to go back to college after summer ended. I go to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where I’m on the field hockey team. When the season ended in the fall, I applied to be a site director at one of the schools for the YMCA of Muncie. I like being there, too. The kids there, some of them do not have stable households, and our before and after care programs are a stable aspect of their lives. Working in school age child care, it helps you build your skills, and working with kids is so important. It’s cool to be an influential person in their lives every day.”
