“I started working here in September. I received my lifeguard certification over the summer, and when I was younger, I came to this Y with a friend. I knew they had swimming here and I decided to apply. I was on my middle school and high school swim teams. I’ve always been a decent swimmer and in my life, I like to surround myself with water. I’m going to school for marine biology. Growing up, I was always interested in three things that were all related to exploration: space, water and aquatic life, and archeology. What led me to marine biology is when I found out how little of the oceans have been explored. Why leave to explore another planet when so much is unknown about our planet?

As a lifeguard at the Y, I enjoy interacting with different groups of people – the Swim Team, lap swimmers and those here for swim lessons. I also really like my co-workers and how my schedule is flexible. Another reason I became a lifeguard is because my parents are CPR certified and I wanted to become CPR certified as well. It’s a basic skill everyone should know. You may be able to help someone someday; you never know when you’re going to need it.

One more thing about me: if there’s no one else on the pool deck, you may hear me singing. I’ve been singing since I was 5 years old.”
