Alana is an FSPY member and fourth grader at Evergreen Elementary School who was asked to write a report on her favorite place in the community. “I have been coming here since I’m 18 months old. I started with parent and me gymnastics classes, and also took swim lessons at the Y. It’s my first year on the C Division Gymnastics Team. I like being on a team, going to meets and meeting new people. In school, we were asked to write two paragraphs about our favorite place in Scotch Plains. I chose the Y because it serves the community and I like places that serve the community. In the third grade, we learn about local government, local historical places and the community. I wanted to write about a place in town that was different. I wanted to be unique.” Here’s part of Alana’s write-up: “My favorite place is the FSP YMCA… The Y was built ‘to serve the community, and to promote health and wellness for mind, body and spirit’ and is a place where people of all ages can go. In fact, there are nearly 10,000 members at the FSP Y. The Y is run by workers and also volunteers. The Y is my favorite place because it serves the community.”
