Raina, 6, and Sophia, 8 are sisters who have participated in a range of FSPY programs, including swim lessons, Tae Kwon Do, gymnastics, dance and camp. Dad Ryan and mom Sophia, look forward to starting the newest addition to the family, Ryan, 1, in swim lessons soon, too. “We started coming here for swim lessons and then found out about camp. Last year was their first year at camp. They were nervous at first, but the staff was really warm and made them feel welcome. This year, they were really looking forward to going back to camp. The girls had a lot of fun. They participated in several interactive activities, they also went outside and did physical activities, which I think are lacking with today’s kids. They were playing just to play, for fun. When we first started coming here for swim lessons, it was so they could learn a life skill. They also took Tae Kwon Do, which is confidence-building, teaches self-defense and is a life skill. They were learning to follow commands and directions, problem solve and communicate with others. Our experience at the Y has evolved from kids swim lessons to kids camp and now my wife and I are coming to exercise and we do things as a family.”
