Updated January 14, 2021
We’re adding new programs all the time! We recently added individual basketball hoop reservations, Teen Wellness, Teen Volleyball and Strength & Conditioning for teens. Learn more about these programs here.
When we first closed our doors in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we never thought that we would still be closed months later. We miss our members, we miss our staff and we miss the caring, kind, dedicated community that we housed within our walls.
We are happy to announce that beginning in July 2020, we have started to bring back some of our in-person programs. This page contains the latest updates to our reopening plans and what we are currently offering to our active members.
If you would like to take your membership off hold to participate in our offerings, click here. If you have cancelled your membership and would like to rejoin the Y, please complete the online membership application. Our Welcome Center staff also are available to answer your questions Monday through Friday from 6:00am-7:00pm and Saturday from 7:00am-12:00pm via phone at 908-889-8880.
We know our members miss the all the programs they participated in prior to our closing. Decisions to open programs are based on the state’s reopening plans and when we are ready to safely reopen each program. We will be reopening in phases with the health and safety of our members and staff as the top priority when making our decisions.
Thank you for staying with us during this time. Your support means the world to us.
Please see below (or click each topic) for the latest information regarding:
Outdoor & Virtual Group Exercise

Educational Child Care
Reservations are no longer needed to access the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s Wellness Center!
Reservations are suggested during our peak hours – Monday through Friday from 6:15-7:15am and 7:30-8:30am. Reservations for only these times can be made on our Registration Page under Acuity Scheduling. If you do not reserve a peak hour time slot, you may be asked to wait if all the time slots have been reserved.
Our Wellness Center is open to active FSPY members ages 14 and over Monday through Friday from 6:15am-6:45pm and Saturdays from 7:15am-12:00pm. The Wellness Center will be closed from 12:00-12:30pm each day for a deep cleaning.
We will continue to limit our Wellness Center to 25% capacity. If the Wellness Center is at this capacity, we will ask members entering the building to wait in a designated area until there is space available. Even though reservations are no longer need, we continue to remain vigilant with the health and safety of our staff and members as our top priority. We ask all members to continue to follow social distancing guidelines by staying 6 feet apart from others and to wear their masks at all times when in the YMCA building. These policies will be enforced by our staff team.
We also have made many changes to the Wellness Center’s physical space and cleaning procedures with the health, safety and comfort of our members and staff in mind. Strength machines, free weights and cardio machines have all been re-positioned to allow safe social distancing and all members will be required to wipe down equipment before and after use. Please review our updated guidelines so you know what to expect prior to your next visit to the Wellness Center.
If you would like to schedule a visit prior to using the Wellness Center to see how we have modified the space, please contact Jen Donahue at firstname.lastname@example.org.
GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES
We are now offering outdoor group exercise classes to all of our active, full-facility members. We’re offering HIIT, Zumba, LaBlast, Defend Together, Pilates and more. You can read our guidelines for Group Exercise classes here. We have also started offering select indoor classes – including Cycle – to our weekly schedule.
In addition, all virtual group exercise classes are now open to our active, full-facility members only. Before each virtual class, registrants will be emailed the link to join. We plan to keep offering these classes as we transition to more in-person offerings.
Both the outdoor group exercise classes and virtual classes will be available by registration only. Members must register for each individual class they would like to take. Classes will be added to our registration page here under Acuity Scheduling. You are now able to register for classes up to thirteen (13) days out with our new online reservation system and cancel up to two (2) hours beforehand through the system.

1:1 PERSONAL TRAINING & NUTRITION CONSULTATIONS
Personal Training and Fitness Consultations at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA are back! 1:1 Sessions are now available for our active, full-facility members. You can view our Personal Training guidelines here.
We will be offering a variety of training to meet your needs and level. The sessions will be administered by Sheri Cognetti and Jennifer Donahue, certified personal trainers, and Donna Peart, our registered dietitian who is also a certified personal trainer. During the sessions, we will be following state guidelines for health and safety protocols.
All 1:1 personal training and nutrition consultations are by appointment only. To learn more or schedule your session, please contact Jennifer Donahue at email@example.com.
We heard you! Changing areas are now available when your swim is complete.
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is thrilled to reopen our indoor pool facilities to current, active adult members ages 14 and over for lap swimming!
We continue to expand our pool hours, including additional times for lap swim, water walking and individual water fitness lanes. View our schedule* here.
*Please note: lap swim times are subject to vary. Please check the registration page under Acuity Scheduling for current availability.
Now, six lanes are in use at one time (except when there are lanes in use for water walking/individual water fitness). Swimmers in lanes next to one another are asked to start at opposite ends of the pool to help adhere to social distancing guidelines.
All sessions are 60-minutes long, with time in between each session to allow for cleaning and sanitizing of the pool deck. Also new to lap swimming: two members within the same household can now share a lane. When registering, you can select to add a second person (age 14 and over) on your membership to swim during the same time.
To participate in lap swim, water walking and individual water fitness, members must register in advance. Visit fspymca.org/register, and click “Acuity Scheduling” to view our most current schedules up to thirteen (13) days out.
Members can register for a maximum of three 60-minute swim sessions per week. We ask that members please be respectful of others who would like to swim. If you have to cancel a reservation, you can now do so up to two (2) hours before your reservation through Acuity Scheduling. If you do not cancel or show up for your reservation, you will be charged a $10 fee.
We all have an important role to play in keeping our Y community safe. We have implemented some new policies and procedures in the interest of everyone’s health and safety. By knowing what to expect and being ready to go, you will make the most of your lap swimming appointment at the Y. You can view the full guidelines here.
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is excited to bring back group swim lessons!
We are offering 4-week sessions for children ages 2-13. You must have an active youth or family membership to participate in group swim lessons.
Registration for our swim lessons can be made at fspymca.org/register under Daxko Program Registration. You can currently view the classes here; click “Registration” followed by “Swim Lessons.” If you need assistance with registering, please call our Welcome Center at 908-889-8880.
Please note: space is very limited as we continue to evaluate community needs and interest. A wait list will be available and we encourage those unable to enroll due to space to go on the wait list as we may open more classes.
