Updated August 6, 2020

When we first closed our doors in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we never thought that we would still be closed months later. We miss our members, we miss our staff and we miss the caring, kind, dedicated community that we housed within our walls.

We are happy to announce that beginning in July 2020, we have started to bring back some of our in-person programs. This page contains the latest updates to our reopening plans and what we are currently offering to our active members.

If you would like to take your membership off hold to participate in our offerings, click here.  If you have cancelled your membership and would like to rejoin the Y, please complete the online membership application. Our Welcome Center staff also are available to answer your questions Monday through Friday from 8:30am-4pm via phone at 908-889-8880.

We know our members miss the all the programs they participated in prior to our closing. Decisions to open programs are based on the state’s reopening plans and when we are ready to safely reopen each program. We will be reopening in phases with the health and safety of our members and staff as the top priority when making our decisions.

Thank you for staying with us during this time. Your support means the world to us.

OUTDOOR & VIRTUAL GROUP EXERCISE

We are now offering outdoor group exercise classes to all of our active, full-facility members. We’re offering HIIT, Zumba, LaBlast, Defend Together, Pilates and more. You can read our guidelines for Outdoor Group Exercise classes here.

Also, all virtual group exercise classes are now open to our active, full-facility members only. Before each virtual class, registrants will be emailed the link to join. We plan to keep offering these classes as we transition to more in-person offerings.

Both the outdoor group exercise classes and virtual classes will be available by registration only. Members must register for each individual class they would like to take. Classes will be added weekly to our registration page here.

Outdoor classes will be held in the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Parking Lot and Brookside Park’s Lower Parking Lot (1255 Hetfield Ave., Scotch Plains). The location will be noted on each class registration page.

Space in our classes is limited and wait lists will be available. Please only sign up for classes if you plan on attending to be respectful of others wishing to participate.

1:1 PERSONAL TRAINING & NUTRITION CONSULTATIONS

Personal Training and Fitness Consultations at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA are back! 1:1 Sessions are now available for our active, full-facility members. You can view our Personal Training guidelines here.

We will be offering a variety of training to meet your needs and level. The sessions will be administered by Sheri Cognetti and Jennifer Donahue, certified personal trainers, and Donna Peart, our registered dietitian who is also a certified personal trainer. During the sessions, we will be following state guidelines for health and safety protocols.

As a Welcome Back Special, we are offering three 30-minute sessions for $99. The special is one-time use only and can be used by new personal training participants.

All 1:1 personal training and nutrition consultations are by appointment only. To learn more or schedule your session, please contact Jennifer Donahue at jdonahue@fspymca.org.

POOL USAGE

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is thrilled to reopen our indoor pool facilities to current, active adult members ages 18 and over for lap swimming!

Pool 2 is currently open for adult lap swim, Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm. The pool is also open Saturdays from 8am to 12pm.

Starting Monday, August 10, we are expanding the number of adult lap swimming lanes in use at one time and adding specific times for adult water walking/individual water fitness.

Now, six lanes will be in use at one time (except when there are lanes in use for water walking/individual water fitness). Swimmers in lanes next to one another will be asked to start at opposite ends of the pool to help adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Water walking and individual water fitness lanes will be available from 12-1pm and 1:30-2:30pm, Monday through Friday. During this time, we will be offering three adult lap swimming lanes and two adult water walking/individual water fitness lanes.

All sessions are 60-minutes long, with time in between each session to allow for cleaning and sanitizing of the pool deck. Also new to lap swimming: two adult members within the same household can now share a lane. When registering, you can select to add a second person (age 18 and over) on your membership to swim during the same time.

To participate in adult lap swim, members must register in advance. Visit fspymca.org/register, where you can view information on registering for our available programs, including lap swim, at the top of the page. Scroll down to the registration area and click on “Reservations” to view all available times for the week and register.

Every other Thursday at noon, we we will publish a two-week schedule that starts the following Monday. Registration for lap swim will close at 2:30pm the day prior.

Members can register for a maximum of three 60-minute swim sessions per week. We ask that members please be respectful of others who would like to swim. If you have to cancel a reservation, please contact Ellen Daudelin at edaudelin@fspymca.org at least 24 hours in advance. Beginning August 3, if you do not cancel or show up for your reservation, you will be charged a $10 fee.

We all have an important role to play in keeping our Y community safe. We have implemented some new policies and procedures in the interest of everyone’s health and safety. By knowing what to expect and being ready to go, you will make the most of your lap swimming appointment at the Y. You can view the full guidelines here.

Please note: to best serve our members, we are updating our pools’ HVAC system, a project that was in the works before our March closure due to COVID-19. The work will likely begin the week of August 17 and continue into the next week. During this time, we will have to close our pools, but we do not anticipate this disruption in service to take more than a few days. Please check back for more details.

SUMMER CAMP

Our campers are back! We’ve been having a great time at camp and are looking forward to the rest of the summer. Camp does look and feel a bit different this year, but the smiles on our campers faces haven’t changed one bit.

Spots are currently available in our camp program for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Our camp program is comprehensive, offering activities such as STEM, sports, art, gardening and more, all while following state and national guidelines for health and safety.

The program will be running through August 28 at our main YMCA building, 1340 Martine Avenue. Camp hours are 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday. More information on our camp program and how to register can be found on our website here.

Sign your child up today for a summer they’ll never forget!

EDUCATIONAL CHILD CARE

We reopened our Educational Child Care program on July 1 with updated policies and procedures in place to keep our students and staff healthy and safe.

We currently have select spots left for 2 and 3 year old children for the months of July and August. Hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday.
