TAE KWON DO

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is excited to offer a 4-week Tae Kwon Do mini session beginning April 5. SPECIAL! Sign up a child, and an adult within the same household is FREE for this session. With Tae Kwon Do, youth and adults can build self-confidence while learning martial arts. At our Y, we teach Tae Kwon Do in a friendly, respectful atmosphere. Our instructors, Steve, Jim and Bob bring over 20 years of experience to our Y. Beginners through black belts welcome. Great family activity for ages 8 and over!

Tae Kwon Do is held Mondays and Fridays at 5:30pm. Class will be held in the YMCA Gym. Masks are required at all times in the YMCA building. Please see our Sports Guidelines for more information on our updated health and safety protocols.

MIDDLE SCHOOL RUNNING & CONDITIONING

Calling all Middle Schoolers! The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is excited to offer a Spring Running & Conditioning Program. Build your endurance and speed and enhance your running skills with us.

The program will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15pm with the 4-week session beginning April 5. The program is open to all students in grades 5-8. Beginners through advanced runners welcome.

The program will be held at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and will take place outdoors weather permitting, or indoors if not. Please bring a mask as they are required at all times in the YMCA building. See our Sports Guidelines for more information on our updated health and safety protocols.

YOUTH SOCCER

Learn the basics of the game of soccer in a fun, safe atmosphere. While playing soccer, your child will be exercising, building soccer skills and stimulating their motor skills and coordination.

Our first 4-week mini session, beginning April 6, will be divided into two age groups, with each group meeting one time each week:
4-5 year olds: Tuesdays from 4:15-5:00pm
5-6 year olds: Thursdays from 4:15-5:00pm

Class will be held in the YMCA Gym. Masks are required at all times in the YMCA building. Please see our Sports Guidelines for more information on our updated health and safety protocols. Please note: If you child is enrolled in one of our Child Care programs, our instructor will pick them up and bring them to class.

Following this introduction to soccer, we are excited to host an 8-week season of T-ball for the same age groups beginning in May. Those in our soccer mini session will have priority registration for T-ball.

TEEN WELLNESS

Our Wellness Center is open for active members ages 14 and over. Youth ages 12-13 who participate in our Teen Wellness program can use the Wellness Center during designated times once the program is completed.  We currently offer two options for Teen Wellness:

SMALL GROUP TEEN WELLNESS

Small Group Teen Wellness is a program for students in grades 7-10 who are looking to get out and get moving in a fun, socially- distanced setting where they’ll learn about healthy living.

The program consists of cardio and strength work in the large muscle groups. Participants will be supervised at all times during each 45-minute session. In a small group setting, teens will learn how to safely and effectively use the machines in our Wellness Center and track their progress on a recommended app.

This program is free and open to active members of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and is by reservation only here under “Daxko Registration.” Teens must register and commit to attending all meetings in the 4-week session.

There will be two separate groups based on grade level:

  • 7th and 8th graders will meet from 3-3:45pm Mondays and Wednesdays
  • 9th and 10th graders will meet from 3-3:45pn on Tuesdays and Thursdays
1:1 TEEN WELLNESS

We are also offering a 1:1 Teen Wellness program for students in grades 7-10 who would like to utilize our Wellness Center. The program offers the same instruction as above with a more personal focus.

Our 1:1 Teen Wellness program is open to actvie members and costs $165 for five 30-minute sessions.

Once either Teen Wellness option is completed, participants ages 12 and 13 can use the Wellness Center during the following designated times: 3:00-5:00pm Monday through Friday and 12-1:30pm on Saturdays. 

Health and safety guidelines are strictly enforced. Masks must be worn at all times when in the YMCA building and outside when social distancing of 6 feet is not possible. Violators of our polices may be asked to leave the Y. View our updated Wellness Center guidelines here.

TEEN STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Teens can improve their sports performance and up their fitness level with our Strength and Conditioning program for ages 13-17.

Classes will focus on strength, speed, agility and endurance and will be held outside. Please bring a mat and weights if you have them. This is a fee-based program.

Open only to active members of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. Register online here under “Daxko Registration.”

Participants will remain socially distant throughout class and follow all YMCA safety protocols. Please also bring a mask to class as they are needed outside when a distance of 6 feet is not possible and inside the Y at all times. Violators of our polices may be asked to leave the Y.

FREE PLAY BASKETBALL

Open basketball is back! Up to two (2) people ages 14 and over in the same household can now shoot hoops at the same time. Open to active members of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA by reservation only.

Time slots are 45 minutes each. Basketball hoops will be available Monday through Friday afternoons and evenings, and Saturday mornings.

Registration for basketball is required here under “Acuity Scheduling.”

Participants must bring their own basketball. There will be one person per hoop unless you are sharing with another member of your household. Social distancing and health and safety procedures will be followed during open basketball – masks are required at all times when inside the YMCA building and outside when social distancing of 6 feet is not possible. Anyone who violates our updated policies may be asked to leave the YMCA building. View our updated Sports Guidelines here.
