Updated October 23, 2020
All of us at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA hope you, your families and friends are staying safe and healthy during this global health crisis!
FSPY closed March 16, 2020 in response to NJ Executive Order No. 104. Today, we are happy to be offering several of our programs and services based on the state’s approval, community needs and when we are ready to safely reopen each program. You can read more about our latest program offerings here.
If you would like to take your membership off hold to participate in our programs, click here.
If you have cancelled your membership and would like to rejoin the Y, please complete the online membership application.
Is your membership currently on hold?
We want to make sure you are aware of an important update about your membership status. On October 9 we sent an email to all members on hold (we have also been calling members if we don’t have your email address on file) to let members know that we are reactivating monthly memberships beginning December 1, 2020. You do have the option to extend your hold 1 or 2 months longer here. If we do not receive a hold extension request by October 30, 2020 we will resume your monthly membership draft on December 1, 2020.
Questions? Our Welcome Center staff are available to answer your questions Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday 8:00am-12:00pm by phone at 908-889-8880.
We know that this is still a challenging and stressful time and you are dealing with a lot of uncertainties. If you need to make a change to your membership, you have the following options.
Your Membership Options
Option 1. Stay with us and continue your membership fees
When we first closed our doors in March, we never thought we would only be partially open 6 months later. As a non-profit organization, the loss of membership and program revenue has been devastating. Even with our doors closed, FSPY has over $350,000 in monthly expenses, including insurance, maintenance and utilities to name a few. This is why we have been asking you to stay with us and continue to pay your monthly membership fee.
During this time, we have been providing the community with virtual group exercise programs, online health and wellness resources, checking in on our members’ well-being and working with community partners to help those in need during this crisis. Now that we are beginning to open up programs to meet community needs, we are faced with increasing costs to run programs while enrollment is limited due to COVID-19 health and safety restrictions.
We respectfully ask you to keep your membership active so that we can remain fully focused on our efforts to help our community stay strong in spirit, mind and body. By paying your membership, you’ll help us reopen just as strong as before. We can’t do it without you!
If you have continued to pay your membership during this time, please accept our deep gratitude. If you would like to convert past or future monthly membership fees to a tax-deductible donation to support the Y’s services and operations, you can click here to donate your membership fees. Once you begin using our Y, your monthly fees will no longer be converted to a donation.
If you continue your membership, but wish to put it on hold at a later date, you can simply return to this page to choose one of the options below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Option 2. Change your membership type
If you would like to change your membership type based on the programs that are currently available, you can do so by completing a membership change form, here.
You can view our membership categories and rates here.
Note: Changes to membership types must be made by the 25th of the prior month for the new rate to be effective for the next month’s draft, which occurs on the 1st of the month. For example, a change must be submitted by September 25 to be effective for October.
Option 3: Place your membership on temporary hold
We know during these uncertain times, continuing Y membership payments is not always a possibility and there are tremendous financial hardships being felt by our members. If you need to put your membership on hold, we understand. Family and financial stability comes first during this time.
You can place your membership on hold at no charge by submitting this online form and selecting a date to come off hold. If you need to put your membership on hold due to a medical reason, please submit this Medical Hold Form.
Please submit this form to request a temporary membership hold.
Please submit your membership hold request before the 25th of the month to stop the auto-draft process for the next month. Please contact email@example.com with any questions.
Option 4: Cancel Your Membership
We understand that there may be circumstances that require you to cancel your membership. During the COVID-19 closure, we are waiving the requirement for 30-days’ notice. Please submit your request before the 25th of the month to stop payment for the next month. If you rejoin within 90 days of the Y fully reopening, you will be not be assessed a Joiner’s fee. Please submit this form to cancel your membership.
Support the Y with a tax-deductible donation
Whatever you decide about membership, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help support the Y. Any amount, great or small, will help us now and into the future.
Your donation to our “We Are Y Strong” campaign will go toward supporting the Y’s services and operations through our closure, including our new Emergency Assistance Fund for FSPY team members who are most impacted by the Y’s closure and COVID-19.
If you would like to contribute, please click here, complete the online form and select the “We Are Y Strong” campaign.
