Free and Open to the Public

Are the kids in your life already dreaming of summer? Let’s awaken their imagination so they can explore new activities and healthy habits.

On Saturday, April 21, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is holding a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active at the annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families. Healthy Kids Day is an opportunity to ignite children’s imaginations so that they can imagine what they’ll accomplish this summer.  The day-long event features fun fitness activities and games, sports challenges, open swim, gardening, healthy food tasting stations, face painting, arts and crafts, STEM activities and much more to motivate and teach families how to develop and maintain healthy routines at home throughout the summer months.

New to Healthy Kids Day this year is the Y’s nationwide call for artwork, Child Hunger is No Fairytale, highlighting the importance nutrition plays in ensuring kids reach their full potential.

Child Hunger is No Fairytale

One in six children struggle with food insecurity, and when children are hungry, their development suffers. That’s why the Y and Walmart foundation have partnered to help raise awareness of this epidemic. “Child Hunger is No Fairytale” asks children to think about their favorite fairytales and ponder how things would have gone a bit differently if the protagonists hadn’t been hungry. Children attending Healthy Kids Day will be able to create their artwork and submit it via social media. The selected winners’ artwork will be shared in an online gallery and/or featured in the Y’s national anti-hunger campaign.

The FANWOOD-SCOTCH PLAINS Y’s Healthy Kids Day takes place at 1340 Martine Ave., Scotch Plains, NJ from 12:00-3:00pm. For more information, please contact Katie Dudas at 908-889-8880.
