For 17 years, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community has joined together to remember, learn and give our time on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Created by volunteers for volunteers, this day has become a celebration of the interwoven and compassionate community we create together.
This year’s event will be held on Monday, January 19. The day will start with an opening ceremony at 10:00 am at the Y, followed by volunteer, learning, and donation opportunities for adults and children throughout Fanwood and Scotch Plains.
Service Projects and Donation Drives held at the Y Include:
- Valentines for Veterans – FSPY Swim Team
- Martin’s Big Words: Reading & Craft Activity – Junior Girl Scout Troop 40641
- Help Vets’ Pets! Pet Food Drive & Card Making Activity – Girl Scout Troop 40969
- Career Closet Donation Drive – SPF-Saath
- Boys & Girls Clothing Drive – FSP Rotary Club
- Children’s Book Donations for Little Free Library – Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA
- Diverse Book Donations for Little Free Library – Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA
Our Y is excited to once again be a part of this event, which unites our community for the good of those who live here. We will be hosting several events that day, and all the service projects held in our area and how to sign up can be found here.
